Reviewer: A Pohick (near Crystal City)
This first of a proposed three programs teaches the Ojibwe language (a.k.a. Chippewa or Anishinaabemowin) in a fashion which is refreshingly new and different from other language material and courses. Instead of presenting new elements of vocabulary and grammar in choppy sequences of unrelated events, it builds up on a conversation by expanding a dialogue from one session to the next.

Ojibwe Pimsleur - Audiofy Audiobook Chip Solutions

Pimsleur Ojibwe (Digital Audiobook) [UNABRIDGED]

Pimsleur has been a recognized name in language training for decades, and updated Bookchip editions of the flagship Pimsleur Comprehensive series have shrunk the traditional binder of a dozen cassettes or CDs into a tiny memory card — yielding an affordable, durable, more portable product. Each Bookchip, hardly larger than a stamp, holds an unabridged course with 15 hours or more of digital audio, and saves the last listening position automatically (unlike CDs). The Pimsleur Ojibwe Comprehensive program offers 30 half-hour lessons, designed to help the listener enter an low intermediate level of spoken proficiency on the ACTFL* scale. These Pimsleur Ojibwe lessons emphasize concrete topics applicable to routine social conversation and limited work demands, and reinforce proper usage of past, present and future tense. This Bookchip edition can be played on a Microsoft Windows PC or laptop (Windows 98, 2000 or XP) with an SD memory card slot (typically used for digital cameras), and moves seamlessly to Palm PDAs, Treos, and Windows Mobile handhelds and mobile phones with SD slots (Pocket PC 2003 or later). Bookchips avoid the lengthy downloading or "syncing" of other digital formats. Consider the lightweight, low-cost, battery-operated Audiofy Player, available separately or bundled, to eliminate any need for a computer (or computer skills!). Bookchips offer "no look" navigation, announcing your listening position with two button clicks and letting you jump to other lessons in seconds. Not only convenient, it's ideal for anyone hindered by the hard-to-read displays on some devices. Since university linguist Dr. Paul Pimsleur designed Ojibwe language courses that are almost entirely audio-based, they are suitable for practice while traveling, commuting or exercising. Each Ojibwe lesson reinforces prior lessons, using Pimsleur's approach of progressive "Graduated Interval Recall" without rote memorization or drills.

Dr. Paul PimsleurDr. Paul Pimsleur
(1928—1976) was one of the world's experts in applied linguistics. He taught French phonetics and phonemics at University of California, Los Angeles after obtaining his Ph.D. in French from Columbia University.

His research was focused into understanding the language acquisition process, especially the organic learning of children that speak a language without knowing its formal structure. For this, he studied the learning process of groups made of children, adults, and multilingual adults. The result of this research was the Pimsleur language learning system.

The Pimsleur language learning system (PLLS) is a language acquisition method developed by Dr. Paul Pimsleur and based on four main principles:

  • Anticipation
  • Graduated interval recall
  • Organic learning
  • Learning like a child

With Pimsleur audio courses you can learn languages in a very effective and pleasant way. The Pimsleur Method is based on the fact that any language consists of a core vocabulary — a certain stock of lexical items that are frequently used in daily conversations. The following tests contain the majority of the Pimsleur vocabulary words (content words). Pimsleur is a registered trademark of , a company English-test.net is not affiliated with. The word definitions of the Pimsleur tests on English-test.net are based on the (Voice of America). English-test.net is not affiliated with VOA. The sample sentences contained in the Pimsleur tests on this website have been created by English-test.net to illustrate the meaning of the vocabulary words contained in the Pimsleur audio course. Those sample sentences are different from the original Pimsleur materials.
