Very good
Reviewer: A customer
The Pimsleur programs provide a method of self-practice with an expert teacher and native speakers in lessons specially designed to work with the way the mind naturally acquires language information. The various components of language – vocabulary, pronunciation and grammar – are all learned together without rote memorization and drills. Using a unique method of memory recall developed by renowned linguist, Dr. Paul Pimsleur, the programs teach listeners to combine words and phrases to express themselves the way native speakers do. By listening and responding to thirty minute recorded lessons, students easily and effectively achieve spoken proficiency.

Swahili Pimsleur - Audiofy Audiobook Chip Solutions

Pimsleur Swahili (Digital Audiobook) [UNABRIDGED]

Pimsleur has been a recognized name in language training for decades, and updated Bookchip editions of the flagship Pimsleur series have shrunk the traditional binder of a dozen cassettes or CDs into a tiny memory card — yielding an affordable, durable, more portable product. Each Bookchip, hardly larger than a stamp, holds an unabridged course with 15 hours or more of digital audio, and saves the last listening position automatically (unlike CDs). The Pimsleur Swahili Compact — Swahili course offers 10 half-hour lessons, designed to help the listener enter an low level of spoken proficiency on the ACTFL* scale. These lessons emphasize concrete topics applicable to routine social conversation and limited work demands, and reinforce proper usage of past, present and future tense. This Bookchip edition can be played on a Microsoft Windows PC or laptop (Windows 98, 2000 or XP) with an SD memory card slot (typically used for digital cameras), and moves seamlessly to Palm PDAs, Treos, and Windows Mobile handhelds and mobile phones with SD slots (Pocket PC 2003 or later). Bookchips avoid the lengthy downloading or "syncing" of other digital formats. Consider the lightweight, low-cost, battery-operated Audiofy Player, available separately or bundled, to eliminate any need for a computer (or computer skills!). Bookchips offer "no look" navigation, announcing your listening position with two button clicks and letting you jump to other lessons in seconds. Not only convenient, it's ideal for anyone hindered by the hard-to-read displays on some devices. Since university linguist Dr. Paul Pimsleur designed courses that are almost entirely audio-based, they are suitable for practice while traveling, commuting or exercising. Each Swahili lesson reinforces prior lessons, using Pimsleur's approach of progressive "Graduated Interval Recall" without rote memorization or drills.

Dr. Paul PimsleurDr. Paul Pimsleur
(1928—1976) was one of the world's experts in applied linguistics. He taught French phonetics and phonemics at University of California, Los Angeles after obtaining his Ph.D. in French from Columbia University.

His research was focused into understanding the language acquisition process, especially the organic learning of children that speak a language without knowing its formal structure. For this, he studied the learning process of groups made of children, adults, and multilingual adults. The result of this research was the Pimsleur language learning system.

The Pimsleur language learning system (PLLS) is a language acquisition method developed by Dr. Paul Pimsleur and based on four main principles:

  • Anticipation
  • Graduated interval recall
  • Organic learning
  • Learning like a child
